The perversion of college football
So I was watching the Rose Bowl yesterday (mainly cause there wasn’t much on) and really was kinda disgusted. The amount of advertising in the game and for each little segment was overbearing. Maybe I am just not used to it and this is the way college football has become since the only sport I really watch anymore is EPL Soccer, where there is little advertising in the game, apart from the boards along the field.
But watching the game was just crazy, it was sponsored by Citi Group, with the Tostitos impact players and the Capital One power replay or something like that. Plus the horrendous amount of commercials. The first quarter took 40 minutes to play. How are we supposed to expect these college players to be students athletes and not have any drive to break NCAA rules and talk to agents and whatnot if we farm them out for free advertising.
Can you think of an NFL player who companies were getting free advertising from? No, because he would want some of the action. All we are doing is perverting the sport and taking away what made it great, the fact it was about the game and the kids playing. This is why I watch EPL soccer. The game is still about the game. Yes they may have comapnies on their jerseys, but there are no commercials, no sponsored breaks in the game, just 90 minutes of soccer, plain, simple and good.
